A Developing UK framework  for Floor Safety Assurance

Supporting organisations in managing flooring safety, maintenance and hygiene risk across commercial environments.

Damaged or poorly maintained flooring can contribute to slip and trip incidents, hygiene risks and costly disruption when issues are not identified early.

Join organisations supporting the development of the AFSSA™ floor safety standard.

Why Floor Safety Matters

Slips, trips and falls remain one of the most common causes of workplace injury in the UK, costing organisations hundreds of millions of pounds each year in claims, lost productivity and disruption.

In many environments, flooring risks develop gradually through wear, damage, poor maintenance or failed repairs. When these issues are not addressed early, they can lead to increased safety risks, hygiene concerns and costly full replacements.

AFSSA™ has been developed to support a more proactive and structured approach to flooring safety management. to flooring safety, helping organisations identify risks earlier, maintain safer environments and extend the life of their flooring assets.

A New Approach to Floor Safety Assurance

Many organisations only address flooring once failure occurs often after incidents, inspections, or costly disruption.

Despite flooring being a critical safety surface, there is currently no consistent framework for annual assessment, condition visibility, or documented assurance.

This creates uncertainty for duty holders responsible for maintaining safe environments.
